History
The “Levy & Müller” publishing house was founded in Stuttgart, Germany in 1871 by Maximilian Levy and Wilhelm Müller. Initially without a specialty direction, from 1900 onwards we focused mainly on children’s books. In the years between 1900 and 1936 we were one of the leading publishers of youth literature in the German-speaking world. Starting around 1926, our youths’ book program appeared under the name “Herold-Bücher”. In 1933 our publishing house, which now only published books for young people, was renamed Herold-Verlag. During this period, we published a wide variety of books, including books specifically for girls (historically), fairy tales, World War I books and even science fiction.
Our company was illegally seized by the Government in 1936. We are now restarting it under the name “Herold Verlag Publisher” in 2024, with emphasis again on children’s books, as well as republishing old favorites.
